Barrio Manouche takes their audience on a magical journey with a unique fusion of cultures and musical backgrounds and an auditory and visual feast like no other. The San Francisco-based acoustic ensemble performs a repertoire of original compositions with an emotionally charged sound that is difficult to classify yet instantly recognizable.  Barrio Manouche will perform at The Palms Playhouse for the first time on Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 ($12 with student ID).  Barrio Manouche’s members hail from Spain, Quebec, France, Brazil and California. The group is deeply influenced by a wide range of musical traditions, and the band’s international roots shine brightly in their music and performances.  The ensemble has been recognized for its innovative style, complex technique and passion for musical improvisation, as well as for its exciting collaborations with artists like French Flamenco dancer Fanny Ara, African sacred dance by dancer Emaye Ama Mizani and Colombian singer Iván Rondón.  Barrio Manouche is Javi Jiménez (guitar and vocals), Alex Zelnick (guitar), Luis Jiménez (cajón and percussion), Gary Johnson (bass), Cyril Guiraud (saxophones and caxixi), Magali Sanscartier (violin, vocals and percussion), Fanny Ara (dance, palmas, castanets and vocals), and Emaye Ama Mizani (dance and percussion). According to Aaron Carnes of the East Bay Express, “Barrio Manouche makes magical acoustic music mashed together from all corners of the globe—a new form of Americana, if you will, where flamenco guitar drifts above Brazilian beats, clashing with Gypsy-jazz melodies…a rich, gorgeous blend of acoustic Latin-French jazz.”  Barrio Manouche released their first album, “Aires de Cambio,” last year. Their newest single is “La Foule.” Tickets are available at Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters, Armadillo Music in Davis, Davids’ Broken Note in Woodland, online via The Palms’ website and Eventbrite, and at the door if not sold out.  For more information, visit and  ]]>
