Homegrown Holiday ideas from the local wine country

Holidays are a time for celebrating with friends and family from near and far. What better way to share the local area than sharing our homegrown local specialties. We can improve the local economy by shopping local, especially since significantly more of that money stays in the community.

Remember that wine makes a great gift for family birthdays and holidays. While researching the wine specials in the area, I came across some great ideas for the holidays. Most of the specials I came across are available in person or online.

~ Capay Valley Vineyards: What better way to celebrate the holidays than with Sparkling Viognier, grown right here in our area in the Capay Valley, by Capay Valley Vineyards, and perfected by winemaker Terri Strain. Crisp refreshing, fun! Same delicious Viognier, with a bubbly celebration in every bottle. They also have some decadent holiday gifts. How about their “A Bottle of Capay Valley Vineyards Syrah” covered in a half-pound pound of delicious dark chocolate, gift boxed or ala carte, or a three-bottle gift box, all available online. A local wine club membership makes a great gift. http://www.capayvalleyvineyards.com/gifts.cfm

~  Séka Hills: The Séka Hills Olive Mill & Tasting Room in Capay Valley highlights the agricultural bounty of the region. You can choose gifts of wine, wildflower honey, chocolate toffee almonds to honey glazed walnuts nuts, to plain, peppered and teriyaki beef jerky, elderberry, fig, pomegranate balsamic vinegars, or make customized gift boxes with a little bit of everything. They offer a harvest club as well as a wine club membership. http://www.sekahills.com/products/

~  Turkovich Family Wines: The Turkovich Family Wines tasting room is located in historic downtown Winters and is the ideal place to pick up local wines and cheeses. Do you need an elegant champagne flute, or how about a new fancy pull tap waiter cork screw? You can purchase authentic white and red wine glasses for the wine enthusiast in your life. Pick up some unique and tasty Tempranillo chocolate sauce as well. Give the gift of their Wine & Cheese Club, and all of the benefits that go with that, all year long. https://shop.turkovichwines.com/xe/xe.asp?page=browse

~  Nichelini Family Winery: Located on Highway 128 just out of Winters, this is the oldest family-owned winery in Napa County. The hand-selected special holiday gift sets that Nichelini offers are very elegant. Enjoy for yourself, or give to friends and family. Check out their online Holiday Gift guide. Choose from a Four Course Holiday Meal Pairing, White Bordeaux Trio, Cab Duo Vertical, 2012 Cab Duo, or Cab Holiday Set. Join their wine club, created for those who want to appreciate Nichelini wines year-round. A wine club membership also makes a perfect gift. Whether for friends, family or business associates, the gift of fine wine is always appreciated. https://wineshop.nicheliniwinery.com/xe/xe.asp?page=viewcat&cat=holiday-gift-guide

~  Matchbook Wines: This family-owned winery is tucked away in northern California’s gently rolling Dunnigan Hills, out in the middle of farm country near Zamora. Send Holiday Cheer or entertain your guests with their Holiday Sampler. You can also pick up some of their Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a great gift for the food lover in your life. They also offer a Mediterranean Red Wine and Olive Oil Trio. Enjoy two beautiful Matchbook Estate Grown Mediterranean red wines and a bottle of their extra virgin olive oil. Their wine club includes deal on wine and olive oil. http://www.matchbookwinestore.com

~  Berryessa Gap: Located right here in Winters, you can visit Root Stock, which has relocated in the Berryessa Gap tasting room and find wine-themed gift items, such as glassware, Italian pottery and Spanish cookware, which can be purchased along with wine racks made from old wine barrels. Also featured are local olive and walnut oils, and of course delicious cheeses, chocolates and honey. A wine club membership will ship the flavors and aromas of Winters to your door, year-round. Whether your people are into reds, whites or anything in between, you will find those products right here in your own backyard. We are so lucky to live here in northern California, so it’s only right for us to share the bounty.
