Yolo Hospice is offering a new series of the multiweek course on Mind Body Wisdom for managing chronic pain and chronic stress. Previous classes have received a very positive response from participants. The new series will begin Thursday, June 14, with an introduction class at 10 a.m., held at Yolo Hospice (1909 Galileo Court, Davis). There is no cost or commitment for attending the introduction. For those who wish to commit, the class will then follow for another seven weeks, ending on August 2.

The course will be led by Yolo Hospice Ambassador Gitane, PhD, MFT (known in the community as “Dr. G”). It is recommended for caregivers, anyone with a chronic illness, or anyone experiencing ongoing serious stress. Based on mind-body science, the class offers simple tools and techniques. When practiced daily, these can help greatly in reducing physical tightness and tension, recognizing and reducing the negative effects of lingering feelings such as anger and anxiety and, best of all, help in reducing physical pain. It can even help with increasing feelings of joy, enthusiasm and well-being.

Lynne, a participant in an earlier class, reflected afterwards, “I am better able to cope with my difficult situation. The process is simple yet deep at the same time. It has become a part of me.” Julie, another participant, shared, “When I began this class I had no faith that it would help me at all. I am naturally a skeptical person. It didn’t take long before I began to believe.”

Space is limited and a reservation is required. Please call Yolo Hospice at 530-758-5566 to register for the introduction. There will be an opportunity at the introduction to sign-up for the full course if desired. Once committed to the class, there is an $80 cost for the full program. In other settings, this class would typically be $300-400. Yolo Hospice is pleased to offer this to the community at a reduced rate. There is no need to commit to payment until after the introductory class. Scholarships may apply.

For additional questions about the course, please contact Gitane at 530-758-3949.  Gitane is a Yolo Hospice Ambassador and psychotherapist in Davis, providing coaching, mentoring and education. Her weekly radio program on KDRT, Heart to Heart, offers inspiration on creating and maintaining a loving life.
