Auditions for ‘The Wizard of Oz’ planned

The Winters Theatre Company will hold auditions for “The Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum on Tuesday, Aug. 29, and Wednesday, Aug. 30, with callbacks scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31, 7:30 p.m. each evening at the Winters Community Center.

Adults and children of all ages are welcome to audition and all parts are open. Roles include Dorothy, Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, Glinda the Good Witch, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Emerald City Guard, the Wizard, Munchkins and Citizens of Munchkinland, Crows, Trees, Poppies, Ozians, Winkies, Flying Monkeys, and Jitterbugs.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Those auditioning for singing parts will be asked to perform songs from the show. Those who need to sing in a different key from the show score are asked to bring sheet music with them.

Performance dates are Nov. 17 through Dec. 3. Rehearsals will begin in mid-September. The Winters Theatre Company also welcomes those interested in assisting behind the scenes, including stage crew, set designers and builders, costumers, kitchen helpers and technical crew.
