The California Highway Patrol is investigating two fatalities that occurred in separate incidents last week.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, the driver of a Subaru was traveling south on Jefferson Boulevard north of Pumphouse Road near Clarksburg, when for unknown reasons the vehicle went off the west side of the roadway and overturned into a canal.

Rescue personnel arrived on scene and administered CPR after pulling the driver from the submerged car, but he died at the scene from his injuries. Yolo County coroner’s officials identified him as Scott Carpenter, 33, of Sacramento.

Early Friday morning, at about 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a pedestrian-versus-vehicle collision at County Roads 98 and 25A..

According to the CHP, a man was running westbound on the shoulder of Road 25A and entered the intersection with Road 98, into the path of the southbound vehicle.

The runner, who sustained fatal injuries at the scene, had not yet been identified as of Friday afternoon. Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected factors in this collision, the CHP reported.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Woodland CHP office at 530-662-4685.
