Spring is here with several events sponsored by The UC Master Gardeners of Yolo County for the month of April. The Master Gardeners provide University of California research-based information and assistance to home gardeners through free publications, classes, plant sales, and more.

Action in the Garden: April Kitchen Garden Chat will be held via Zoom link ucanr.zoom.us/j/98028723763 on Saturday, April 2 from 10–11 a.m. This month’s talk will focus on tricks for planting for best results and how to prevent pest damage to new transplants.
Spring Plant Sale: The The UCCE Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale is the first two Saturdays, April 2 and April 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Woodland Community College (2300 Gibson Road, Woodland), in the Ag area of the campus. The plant sale will feature heirloom tomatoes, perennials, drought-tolerant landscape plants, bulbs, and succulents. Masks are required to be on campus. Sales are cash or check only. Proceeds support the UCCE Master Gardeners Program of Yolo County.
Pollinator workshop: On Saturday, April 9 from 10–11 a.m., in conjunction with the plant sale, Master Gardener Paula Haley will present a workshop entitled “Welcoming Pollinators to Your Garden.” The workshop is free, open to the public, and will be located outdoors, adjacent to the Woodland Community College’s Ag Area.
Woodland HS event: The Woodland High School – Spring Plant Sale will be held on April 2 and April 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A wide variety of plants will be offered for sale: vegetables, succulents, natives, and drought tolerant perennials. The high school is located on 21 North West St. in Woodland; however, plant sale attendees should park in the student parking lot located off Beamer Street to access the sale. Payment is by cash or check only.
Weed identification workshop: The Master Gardener Workshop “Weed identification” will be held via Zoom at yolocounty.zoom.us/j/83020194545 on Thursday April 7, from 3–4 p.m. Led by Liberty Galvin, Yolo County Master Gardener, PhD Candidate, Horticulture and Agronomy, UCD, the workshop will start with a 25-minute lecture, leading to a 10 minute interactive DIY plant identification, and end with 10 minutes of group share and questions. Before class: bring several photos of leaves, flowers and stems, or an entire plant to identify.
Winters plant sale and tour: The Winters Community Library Teaching Garden Plant Sale and Garden Tours, on April 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature a variety of plants grown by garden volunteers and from Morningsun Herb Farm in Vacaville. Master Gardeners will be on site to answer questions. Gardening, nature, and cookbooks will be offered for sale by The Winters Friends of the Library. The Winters Community Library Teaching Garden is located at 708 Railroad Ave. in Winters.
Soil workshop: The Master Gardener Workshop “The Care and Feeding of Great Soil” will be held via Zoom on April 22 from 3–4 p.m. This workshop will teach how to improve soil now and care for it in the future.
