Prospective candidates can begin collecting signatures

Those wishing to file for candidacy in the upcoming June 2018 primary elections can begin collecting signatures in lieu of the filing fee. Candidates may collect a signature from any Yolo County registered voter who is eligible to vote for that candidate. These signatures may cover all or a portion of the filing fee.

Candidates have until Feb. 7 to collect and submit their signatures. The petition must be submitted to the elections office, and any portion of the filing fee not covered by the petition must be paid before the candidate can receive nomination documents.

Assembly Bill 469, which was enacted in October, has pushed the deadline to submit this petition back to 30 days before the close of the nomination period, as opposed to 15 days before the close of the nomination period in previous elections. It has also reduced the number of signatures required to cover the filing fee.
