Help reinvigorate Putah Creek Council’s Lake Solano Park (LSP) Docent Program by becoming a docent.

Putah Creek Council is holding its first Lake Solano Park Docent training since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic on April 9 at the LSP Nature Center located at 8685 Pleasants Valley Rd. in Winters.

Lake Solano Park is located at the base of the coastal foothills west of Winters. This park has many recreational opportunities, including camping, picnicking, hiking, kayaking, birdwatching, and more. The Lake Solano Park Docent Program was formed as a partnership between Putah Creek Council and Solano County Parks that would enhance guest experiences. Docents are given the opportunity to interact with and educate park visitors on all things Putah Creek and wellness in nature.

Putah Creek Council is looking for nature-minded volunteers to bring their knowledge and skills to help create and present activities for Lake Solano Park visitors. Lake Solano Park docents have led canoe tours, guided nature walks, and stargazing events, but we are also looking for musicians, artists, yoga instructors, birders, and more to bring their talents to the park and to the public!

The first Docent Training Session will be held on April 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lake Solano Park’s Nature Center, which recently reopened following the LNU Complex Fire in 2020. During this training, volunteers will learn about the natural and cultural history of Putah Creek and Lake Solano Park as well as some of the park’s notable residents; native plants and wildlife. The training will end with a guided nature walk through the park where volunteers can soak in the views of Lake Solano.

To sign up for this training opportunity to learn more about the LSP Docent Program, visit PCC’s website at https://putahcreekcouncil.org/events and register for the April 9 Lake Solano Park Docent Program Training.
