The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming midterm election is Monday, Oct. 22. Those wishing to vote in California must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of California, at least 18 or older on election day, not be in state or federal prison or out on parole for a felony conviction and not be currently found to be mentally incompetent to vote by a court. Californians can register online at Using a smartphone, scan the QR code on the front page to go to the website. Those registering online must have either a California-issued I.D., or a social security number. Voters can also register by mail using the National Voter Registration Form. The applicant is asked to provide a California driver’s license number, a California identification card number or the last four digits of their social security number. If this information is not provided, the voter will be required to provide identification at the polling place. In order to register by mail, the application form must be postmarked by Monday, Oct. 22. It is also possible to register to vote in-person from Tuesday, Oct. 23, until Tuesday, Nov. 6.
