The Yolo County Library is hosting an online Basic ESL class to county residents. Registration for the class is open now through Sept. 20.

Nancy Pacheco, Yolo Reads Coordinator, said this is the first time the class is being offered in a virtual setting due to county and state restrictions in response to COVID-19.

The online class will consist of 10 one-hour meeting dates. Classes are held on Fridays starting on Sept. 25.

Along with phone support, class participants will also receive textbooks and materials which will be provided by mail delivery or pickup at the Winters Community Library.

The course is taught by a certified ESL instructor and is designed for parents, grandparents or caregivers of school age or younger children. However, Pacheco said the class is open to anyone in the general public who is looking to learn English as a second language.

The course is considered a pre-beginning ESL course, and for those who are beginning to learn English. Spots in the class are limited to 15 students, and registration is required to participate. The class is free to attend thanks to the support of the Winters Friends of the Library.

To register for the class or to ask questions contact Nancy Pacheco at 530-666-8019 or by email at
