Incoming sixth grade students at Winters Middle School will be able to drop off their fifth grade materials and pick up new Chromebooks before the beginning of the school year on Aug. 10 starting at 9 a.m.

Shirley Rominger Intermediate School and Winters Middle School staff have coordinated a streamlined materials drop-off and Chromebook check-out process across both school sites. WMS Principal Phoebe Girimonte said they want to ensure that all students have the connectivity and resources they need to access distance learning. The sixth grade event is being coordinated to help prevent gaps in the transition from Rominger to becoming a student at WMS.

“We want to make sure that all families have the information and support they need to partner with us,” Girimonte said. “We want to make sure we are providing timely and helpful information to sustain and build upon relationships.”

Day of Event Schedule
Families should begin the process by dropping off their fifth grade materials and Chromebooks at the Rominger Multi-Purpose Room between 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Students need to return their Chromebook, charger, classroom library books and school library books.

They’ll also need to return the following textbooks as indicated by their fifth grade class below:

Teacher Katie Aunan:
Wonders Literature Anthology Book
~Wonders Reading/Writing Workshop Book.
~Social Studies Textbook-Reflections.

Teacher JoAnn May:
~Wonders Literature Anthology Book.
Social Studies Textbook-Reflections.

Teacher Octavio Melchor:
Wonders Literature Anthology Book.
~Wonders Reading/Writing Workshop Book.
~Maravillas Antología de Literatura.
~Maravillas Libro de Taller de lectura y escritura.

Students who were in the class with Teacher Libbie Lafontaine do not have materials to return.

After students have returned their materials at the Rominger Multi-Purpose Room they will receive a ticket to verify they have completed the step. With ticket in hand the family can then head over to the WMS Multi-Purpose Room where they can check-out a new Chromebook and pick up any additional materials. The WMS check-out time frame will go from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Staff ask that only one family member attend with the student, and that attendees wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines at both school sites. Girimonte said families who are unable to attend during the event time frame should contact one of the school sites to arrange an alternative arrangement to drop off and check out materials.
