It is time for spring planting. Find the plants you want for your garden at the Plant Sale held at the Winters Community Library Teaching Garden (708 Railroad Ave.) on April 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event — a collaboration of community organizations (The Master Gardeners of Yolo County, Yolo County Library, Winters Friends of the Library (WFoL), and Winters High School ceramics class) — is one of a series of events on wildflowers and pollinators scheduled for the Winters Community Library.

The cash or check only sale will feature plants from Morningstar Herb Farms of Vacaville. The plants offered for sale provide habitat for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds including a variety of dwarf butterfly bushes, lavenders, ornamental sages, succulents, culinary herbs, and various California native plants plus many more.

We will also hand out a limited number of wildflower seed packets and native bee identification cards. To complement the plant sale, WFoL will have their book cart available with a variety of cookbooks, gardening books and nature books for sale with proceeds to benefit the Winters Community Library. Winters High School art students spent a class day in the garden and created ceramic artwork which will be on display throughout the garden.

This plant sale provides an opportunity to tour an established pollinator garden in Winters as well as view and purchase plants that are featured in the teaching garden. In addition, Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions about the plants you wish to purchase or other gardening questions. Those who are unable to attend the plant sale can ask gardening questions by calling the Master Gardener hotline at 530-666-8736 or emailing mgyolo@ucdavis.edu.

This event is one of a series offered through June as part of a grant provided by HHMI Tangled Bank Studios and PBS Nature through a partnership with Winters Community Library and UCCE Master Gardeners. The two organizations collaborated to plan a variety of events for all ages to experience the Winters Community Library and Garden while highlighting the crucial role of bees and other pollinators.

Stop by the plant sale on April 16 and check out a variety of plants that will bring pollinators to your garden.
