The Board of Trustees appointed an Acting Superintendent at the June 21 Winters Joint Unified School District school board meeting.

In a letter to the community, Board President Carrie Green announced that Phoebe Girimonte was selected to fill the Acting Superintendent role following the departure of Superintendent Diana Jiménez.

Jiménez was hired as the Winters JUSD Superintendent in July 2020, following the departure of former Superintendent Todd Cutler. Jiménez accepted the position of Superintendent for Merced City School District in May.

Girimonte joined the Winters JUSD team in 2016 where she served as the Winters Middle School Assistant Principal, and eventually stepped into the WMS Principal role. Last year, she was placed as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.

Prior to her work in Winters, Girimonte worked in the Dixon Unified School District for 14 years in roles including teacher, site administrator, and District Personnel Coordinator.

Green said Girimonte’s deep familiarity with education and Winters JUSD provides insights and understanding that make her a confident and capable leader during this period.

“We are grateful for Mrs. Girimonte’s can-do spirit and that she accepted this responsibility from a place of loyalty to the (school) District and the community where she and her family have lived for 15 years,” Green said. “Additionally, her three children attend our schools, so she knows the work of instruction from the classroom to the board room, and she has a parent’s perspective, which can be invaluable.”

Superintendent search
Trustees hired McPherson & Jacobson, LLC as the firm to oversee the superintendent selection process. Green noted that McPherson & Jacobson is an executive search firm with a proven background of helping education organizations find the right-fit leader for their district and the community.

“Please be assured that the Board will require the search firm to study our organization, inside and out to help ensure we find the leader with the intellect, integrity, and passion that our schools, scholars and employees deserve,” Green said.

Updates and progress related to the superintendent search will be posted on the school district website at wintersjusd.org.

The next Winters JUSD Board of Trustee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. in the Walnut Room. The public can join in on Zoom.

The meeting agendas, packets and past Zoom recordings are available on the Board of Trustees pages at wintersjusd.org.
