Trustees extend Superintendent contract, personnel items

Trustees unanimously approved an extension of the Winters Joint Unified School District superintendent’s contract, and many personnel-related agenda items at the May 5 Board of Trustee meeting.

Jonathan Feagle, Chief Business Officer, read Section One of the Winters JUSD Superintendent’s Employment Agreement stating: “Should the Superintendent receive a satisfactory evaluation pursuant to this Agreement, the Board, at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting following the Superintendent’s evaluation, shall include an agenda item for discussion of the extension of the Superintendent’s contract for one year.”

“Superintendent Diana Jiménez received a satisfactory evaluation for the 2021-22 school year, and the Board of Trustees discussed a one-year extension of the contract term,” Feagle said.

Trustees unanimously approved the extension without further discussion. Winters JUSD Board of Trustee agendas have regularly listed a closed session regarding Public Employee Performance Evaluation – District Superintendent (Gov. Code §54957). Following a closed session on April 21, President Carrie Green reported that “that by unanimous vote the board has approved a positive evaluation of the superintendent.”

No further details were reported.

Jiménez’s contract is now scheduled to terminate on June 30, 2025.

Personnel items
Lisa Dennis, Human Resources Director, presented Board Resolution No. 1 168-22 to proclaim May 11 as California Day of the Teacher.

“The second Wednesday in May is typically dedicated to recognize the contributions of teachers,” Dennis said.

According to Dennis, California Day of the Teacher communicates to the community the Trustees’ and school district’s appreciation to certificated employees and the valuable work they do on a daily basis in support of Winters JUSD’s mission to provide students with a quality education.

Dennis also presented Board Resolution No 1169-22 to proclaim May 15–21 as Classified School Employee Week.

“Annually one week in mid-May is dedicated to recognizing the contributions of classified employees,” Dennis said.

Trustees approved both proclamations.

Trustees approved Resolution No. 1171-22 to notify certain classified employees of the decision to not reemploy or reduce their hours doe to a lack of work and/or lack of funds. According to Dennis, the specified position were temporarily established to support one of the Winters JUSD school sites with additional COVID-related tasks.

The next Winters JUSD Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 19 at 6 p.m.
