Winters Community EXPO gets underway, plans for Facility Tour of PG&E Gas Safety Academy

The Winters District Chamber of Commerce invites the community to experience the Winters Community EXPO at the Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) Gas Safety Academy. 

The EXPO is a celebration of businesses, nonprofits, and community service organizations that make Winters a great place to live and work. But the EXPO is also meant to inspire our workforce and students to explore a new career path or rekindle the entrepreneurial spirit.

Explore job opportunities at the Oct. 14 Job Fair, learn about a new or existing business, product or service at the Main EXPO on Oct. 29.

The Chamber is planning a behind the scenes tour at the PG&E Gas Safety Academy here in Winters or for students, a tour of the Altec, Inc. facility in Dixon.

PG&E and the Winters Chamber invite the public to learn more about the PG&E Gas Safety Academy facility. Employees at the 30-acre state of the art facility are trained on:

  • Heavy Equipment
  • Commercial Driving
  • Pipeline Operations and Maintenance
  • Welding
  • 811 Locate and Mark
  • Leak Survey
  • Excavations
  • Meter installation and maintenance

This tour will include an in-depth look both inside and outside the Academy including the labs.

As the Senior Manager in charge of Gas Operations Training, Ryan Wake relays the importance of a solid training foundation.

“PG&E Academy’s goal is to increase employee safety and productivity by designing, developing, and delivering best in class training. Because safety begins with having a qualified and competent workforce, we’re committed to delivering the right training to the right employees, at the right time,” said Wake. “If we do our job right, field employees know how to do their jobs safely and efficiently, and employees can improve their skills and knowledge.”

The tour dates are currently in the works. The original tour date was postponed to a later date.

Tours will be one and a half to two hours long which leaves time to ask questions.

Tours are limited to 20 people each to facilitate COVID-19 guidelines of social distancing. Masks will be required.

For your safety, long pants are preferred, and no open toed shoes are allowed.

Admission is $15 per person and includes a gift certificate for lunch from Lorenzo’s Town & Country Market which includes a sandwich, chips, and a drink.
