Winters Joint Unified School District staff and administrators have been working hard during their summer vacation to prepare, revisit, and refine the upcoming distance learning schedules.

With the first day of school slated for Aug. 26, teachers and staff will have two weeks to troubleshoot potential challenges and finish up training on new technological education platforms and virtual education techniques.

At the Aug. 6 Winters JUSD school board meeting JoAnn May, teacher and WAEA (Winters Area Education Association) President, reported that teachers have been on board and seeking out new learning opportunities.

“Books are being published that we are now reading because we want to improve our practice,” May said.

Superintendent Diana Jiménez also said she had been engaging with nonprofit organizations and families in the Spanish-speaking community to help inform them about the upcoming school year as well as to listen to concerns and challenges. She said the District is going to be working to better their communication to the Spanish-speaking community about what is going on.

Assistant Superintendent Sandra Ayón also gave an update on training opportunities the Education Services team have been working on.

In her update on the preparation for Distance Learning she informed Trustees that Winters JUSD and each Winters school site would be rolling out informational events and opportunities for each grade level to come in to pick up materials and their schedule for the year.

Since the Aug. 6 board meeting administrators at Waggoner Elementary, Shirley Rominger Intermediate School, Winters Middle School and Winters High School had sent out letters to families with important information about the upcoming schedule of events prior to the Aug. 26 start of school date.
