They started slow but came on strong in the end and made it a competitive game as the Winters High School JV football team played host to Wheatland on Friday, Sept. 14. The Warriors ended up losing 33-20, but not before making their presence felt in the second half. After trailing 19-0 at halftime, the Warriors were able to make some big plays and put some points on the board. Carson Lowrie ran back a kickoff for an 80 yard touchdown return, ran for a 40 yard touchdown and threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to put his stamp on all three of the Warriors scores. Yahir Sanchez caught the 35 yard touchdown pass and Jesus Chavez kicked 2 of 3 PATs for the Warriors. “I was pleased with how we played for the most part,” said coach Toodie Gomez. “On the line we had Richard Padilla, Hunter Goddan, Jesus Chavez and Albert Lopez going both ways and holding their own. They did a good job of stopping anything from going up the middle. JT Core and Wilson Stone also did a good job on the offensive line.” The Warriors also had some highlights on the defensive side of the ball with Aiden Cruz getting two sacks, linebacker Dillon Adams had one sack, Emmitt Edmond had a fumble recovery and Kaiden Pease had an interception. ]]>
