Aliyah Holliday, a senior at Winters High School is Pisani’s Athlete of the Week. Holliday is one of this season’s cheer captains and has been a part of the WHS cheer squad for all four years of her high school sports career. On the field, Holliday’s stunting skills shine. “Aliyah stands out in stunting. As a base, she leads her stunt group through our most advanced and difficult stunt skills. In dance and sideline cheer, she performs with precision and enthusiasm,” said cheer coach Sterling Davis.
Winters once boasted a prosperous Japanese community, which tragically burned on Aug. 1, 1942 when the United States was celebrating victory over Japan. While the cause of the fire has never been determined, Winters saw discrimination toward Japanese Americans following the war.
