The Winters High School varsity baseball team had three games this past week and while the players lost their game on Tuesday, March 15, against St. Helena High School (by a score of 7-4) and on Thursday, March 17, against Woodland Pioneer High School (3-1), everything turned as they went head to head against Fairfield High School.

On Saturday, March 19, the varsity baseball team won its home non-conference game against Fairfield by a score of 11-2.

Logan Spears pitched the entire game and was backed up by a strong defensive line up. Fairfield was able to get two run very early on in the first inning before the Warriors really buckled down and shut down all other attempts Fairfield made to cross home plate.

Isaac Lopez has been really working hard to prove himself as the only freshmen on varsity this year and his effort is paying off. He has successfully executed some amazing defensive plays throughout the season and his performance during the game on Saturday was no different, with two outs and two assists.

Justice Madsen also had a great defensive game against Fairfield with two outs and one assist. Anthony Duran is another one of the younger players that has proven himself to be an excellent player at the varsity level. Duran played at first during the game against Fairfield and was involved in a total of nine putouts. AJ Pignataro got a lot of action in left field, making three outs for the Warriors while Derrick Olson made two outs at second.

Connor Ray once again led his team in batting going four-for-four with two singles, a double and one walk. Ray used his smart baserunning skills and was able to successfully put three runs on the board for the Warriors. Isaiah Pazmino also had a great day at bat, consistently making contact and battling at the plate. Pazmino hit a double and a single and was able to score one run for the Warriors, along with Olson who was also able to get one run in for the Warriors. Pignataro, Spears and Ashton Baylor were each able to get two runs in for the Warriors. While Duran, Madsen and Lopez never made it across home plate they were also making contact at bat but unfortunately were left stranded on base or thrown out by the opposing fielders.

Overall it was a good game and the Winters Varsity baseball team is looking forward to another great week of baseball.
