On Monday, March 7, the Winters High School varsity baseball team lost their home non-conference game against the Dixon High School Rams in extra innings by a score of 2-1.
David Reyes was put on base early on during the second inning of the game and was able to advance off a hit by Matt Moore, and then crossed home plate off an RBI by AJ Pignataro. However, Dixon quickly recovered and shut down any other attempt Winters made at getting runners in.
Winters also played a great defensive game. Moore took the mound and did his part striking out six batters and picking off four Dixon Rams. Ashton Baylor also played an impressive game with four outs in center field. Freshmen Isaac Lopez also made a few very impressive outs against Dixon, but ultimately it just wasn’t enough to win the game. In the eighth inning a Dixon Ram hit a hard triple and was then hit home by the next batter in the line up.
After the loss against Dixon, Winters went onto play in a three-game tournament on Thursday, March 10 where they lost to both Pierce and Colusa high schools. They did bring home a win against the Los Molinos Bulldogs by a score of 10-1.
“Anthony Duran threw an outstanding game versed a well-coached Los Molinos team,” said varsity head coach Jeff Ingles. “Conner Ray had a solid three-game tourney and we did not miss any offensive signs for the first time this year.”
