The Winters Middle School eight grade girls volleyball team finished their league schedule finishing with a 7-3 record. At the eight grade tournament at Douglass Middle School, the Cardinals played Lee Middle School in the first round and beat them in two. The second game they fell short to the Ralph Waldo Emerson Junior High team and lost in two.

“I am so proud of the hard work and dedication these girls put in,” said coach Mari Chavez. “Six of the players were eighth graders and the other sic are seventh graders who were pulled up in order to have a full roster.”

These young athletes had many team building activities at the start of the season where the girls had an opportunity to get to know each other.

“This definitely helped out by knowing about each other and their knowledge of the game,” Chavez said.

Chavez said the WMS sixth/seventh grade volleyball team worked hard throughout the season.

“They put through a lot of dedication and team building which helped them stay strong,” Chavez said.

This year’s team had four seventh graders and eight sixth graders. The Cardinals finished off the season with an 8-2 record.

“This team will be amazing next year,” Chavez said.
