The Winters High School cross country team went on the road this last week to Durham High School for their third Mountain Valley League section meet of the season.

Juniors Christian Hernandez, Yarethzy Sanchez and sophomore Ruby Campos were the only three athletes who competed for Winters. Unable to compete as a team, they returned home with valuable personal achievements.

“The small size of our team on Wednesday was due to the majority of our team having personal commitments,” said coach William Davis.

Campos continues to make great strides at every meet. This last week Campos set a personal record on the two mile course, dramatically improving her time by over 30 seconds. Her new record is 18:05.

Over the past three years Sanchez, has competed on the varsity team. This last week she also improved her best time on a three mile course. Sanchez’s new personal record is 24:17.

“Hernandez continues to compete as one of the top varsity runners in the league on the three mile course,” said Davis.

Hernandez finished 10th in the boys varsity three mile run coming in at 20:55.
