The Winters High School Junior Varsity Basketball team hosted the St. Helena Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team, which was a non-conference game. Later in the week the Warriors went to Esparto for a non-conference game. The Warriors played a fast but well tempered game. They maintained control of the court throughout the game by getting rebounds and executing strong passes down the court. The result of the game was a win with a score of 31-21. On Tuesday’s home game against St. Helena Xiomara Guzman led the Warriors in points with 12 points. Sierra Berry and Gianna Carrion both had four points. They were followed up by Autumn Mendoza and Ruby Arizaga with two points each. Berry also sunk one from outside the three point line. The remainder of the points are attributed in free throws. On Thursday’s first conference game against Esparto, the final score was 38-16. The Warriors were led in points by Riley Schroeder With 11 points, three of which from the three point line. She was closely followed by Guzman with 10 points and Carrion with eight points. The remaining points are attributed to Shelby Boykin, Berry and Lillian Wirth. “We are starting to be more proficient at getting out on the fast break and pushing the ball up the floor,” said Coach Tom Crisp. “The girls made some really excellent long passes in the first quarter against Esparto.” There will be three games next week for the Junior Varsity Basketball team. The next game will be on Monday, Dec. 10, where the ladies will travel to Woodlands Pioneer High School for a non-conference game. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, they will host East Nicolaus.
