The Winters Juniors Little League gave it everything they had as they battled to come out victorious during the Tournament of Champions. However, on Friday, June 10 the Juniors team lost their lead late in a 5–4 defeat to Vacaville Nationals during the final game of the series.

While Winters dominated their competition earlier on in the tournament, winning against Dixon by a score of 16-1, they just missed the mark and weren’t able to get the hits they needed to pull ahead of the Vacaville Nationals team.

Lane Brown led his team at bat during the final game of the series with a double hit and RBI for the Winters Junior team. Jake Woods, Jordan Calvert, and Andresito Bermudez also battled at the plate and each got a hit for Winters.

Meanwhile, Christian Leon, Chase Kovach and Charlie Carrion each did their part hitting RBI’s to get their teammates across home plate.

Defensively, Woods had a great game on the mound lasting almost five innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out four.

“We played through adversity really well. We got production all throughout our line up. Our defense was challenged early but really tightened up throughout the tournament,” said coach Ron Woods. “Pitching which had been our strength all season became over used due to a key injury. We gave ourselves opportunities late but just couldn’t push the runs across.”

The game was tied at 3–3 until the fifth inning, when Vacaville’s offense made a play that Winters wasn’t able to recover from and ultimately cost them the Champions title.
