The Winters High School JV football team improved their league record to an impressive 2-2 on the season after defeating Pierce High School last Friday, October 19. The Warriors traveled to Arbuckle looking to have a competitive game and came home with a 28-6 victory over the Bears. The Warriors lost starting quarterback Carson Lowrie to the varsity team which made room for freshman Matt Moore to shine in his debut. Moore scored two touchdowns and passed for another to help lead the Warriors to victory. “Matt did a great job,” said coach Toodie Gomez. “He seemed a little nervous at first but that went away pretty quick. He did a good job of passing and running the ball.” Tony Garcia caught a touchdown pass and Aiden Cruz rushed for a touchdown. Cruz also scored a two point conversion, while Jesus Chavez kicked two PATs for the Warriors. “Everybody played well,” Gomez said. “And everybody got to play. JT Core and Chavez did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage on the offensive line while on the defensive line Richard Padilla, Hunter Godden, David Reyes, Anthony Gutierrez and Dylan Adams all had a great game. Also standing out on the defense was Conner Ray, Braulio Mones, Ian McCary and Emmitt Edman.” The Warriors will travel to Durham this Friday for another league game.]]>
