Softball takes win, falls short in tournament

The Winters High School varsity softball team proved themselves during their home conference game on Tuesday, March 22, against Pierce High School by a score of 18-9.

Sierra Berry led her team in batting this week with three runs, two hits and four RBIs. Danielle Johnson and Allison Aguiar also had an impressive day at bat. Johnson had three hits, three runs and two RBI’s and Allison had one run, three hits and four RBI’s.

Isabella Mehl had two runs, three hits, a double and a triple, and two RBIs while Jayle Jimenez had two runs, two hits and two RBI’s. Emily Aguiar and Makayla Garland each had two hits and one run, while Kalyssa Grinbergs and Kathryn Johnson had one hit and one run each.

Grinbergs pitched an excellent game with five strikeouts and zero errors. Catching for her was Jimenez who made eight putouts behind home plate. Allison also did a great job backing up Grinbergs with four putouts. Emily, Garland and Ahtzire Figueroa each had one.

It was a great game for the Warriors, but unfortunately they lost in their second game of the week against Gridley High School and during their third game where they rematched against Pierce.
