The Winters High School swim team recently celebrated their successful season with an award ceremony. Though the team’s efforts weren’t derived from a need of recognition, their hard-swam season undoubtedly earned them acknowledgment and praise.

“It was really great to hand out much-deserved certificates to the team after the season and to give out the ribbons and medals from all our championship meets,” said head coach Devin Tice. “Some swimmers had over 10 medals from all the means with many earning All-league patches for first-place finishes.”

The Coach’s Awards went to Mikaila Anello and Diego Valencia for their indelible efforts all season long. Since the plaques hadn’t come in yet, Tice awarded the swimmers with kick boards until they arrived.

Meanwhile, the men’s team was lauded for winning league. The team members are Tommy Duarte, Trevor Grinbergs, Kenneth Matheson, David Rivas, John Rominger and Valencia.

Tice’s Rookies of the Year include Grinbergs, Duarte, Anello and Mahalia Lanfranco.

The Most Improved Warriors in Tice’s eyes were Brianna Baugh, Ensley Barbosa, Makayla Garland and Duarte. When it comes to dedication to the team, Tice commends swimmers Ava Skinner, Lanfranco, Rominger and Matheson.

After streamlining into success in the 2020 season, the Warriors are looking to flip turn and carry on their winning ways in the next.
