Last week the Sacramento Bee made the picks for its All-Metro baseball teams public. The list is broken down into two teams and a list of honorable mentions. Two Winters High School Warriors will hold the honor of being on the All-Metro team this year: Daniel Carrion and Ruben Valencia. These Warriors will join players from other schools around the Sacramento area. The All-Metro team is made up of high school students from the Sacramento Metro area who are chosen based on performance and personal stats. There is no preference to school or division. Valencia was placed on the second team as a designated hitter. Over the last season he was the team leader in RBIs with 44 and he carried the highest batting average of .552. Carrion was placed on the first team as a utility player, in recognition to his time on the pitchers’ mound and at shortstop. Carrion led the team in runs with 43 and had the second best batting average of .524 for the season. As a pitcher Carrion pitched 14 games out of the total 26 played and he was credited with 11 wins. On Friday CalHiSports.com named Carrion the State Small School Player of the Year. This is the first time a player from the California Interscholastic Federation, Northern Section las won this title since 1996.]]>
