The Winters High School varsity baseball team went two for three in games against both Willows and Sutter high schools last week.

On Tuesday, April 26, the WHS varsity baseball team won its away conference game against Willows by a score of 2-1.

Anthony Duran took the mound in the game against Willows and helped earn the victory for the Warriors allowing only six hits and striking out four. David Reyes and Julian Leon both saw a lot of infield action, consistently grounding out players at first with the dependence on first baseman Matt Moore. Derrick Olson, Logan Spears and Isaiah Pazmino also made some great outs against Willows, holding the score at 2-1.

Leon had another great game at bat and led the Warriors with two hits in three at bats. Moore, Justice Madsen and Olson also made hits off the Willows pitcher giving the Warriors the advantage in the game.

The Warriors played against Sutter on Wednesday, April 27, but didn’t make contact at the plate, resulting in a loss of 2-0.

Spears took his place on the mound, allowing only four hits with three strikeouts in six innings. AJ Pignataro played great back-up to spears, making several outs in left field. Connor Ray picked off a Sutter runner at second early on in the first inning.

Ray later made an out at home plate off a hard throw from Reyes, preventing Sutter from putting more points on the board in the fifth inning. Leon and Olson were once again consistent in getting their bodies behind the ball and making several outs for the Warriors.

Moore tried to get the Warriors started at the plate, going one for two, but unfortunately Sutter had a better day at bat.

On Friday, April 29, the WHS varsity baseball team recovered from the loss against Sutter and won its home conference game against Willows by a score of 3-0.

Moore pitched well, striking out five Willow batters and allowing zero runs. Second baseman Olson had a major impact on the Warriors score, being involved in several defensive plays throughout the game. Reyes and Leon also got in on several plays making several outs at first, while Ashton Baylor made two impressive catches in right field.

Moore had a great game at the plate, batting two runners in. Baylor also earned his team a run on an RBI. Leon, Ray and Pignataro used their smart base running skills and speed to make it across home plate, working hard for another Warrior victory.
