Winters stopped short

Friday night the Winters High School, Junior Varsity football team travelled to Durham High School for a Sacramento Valley League game. The Warriors put a good fight, but they were not able to score any points. The game ended in a lose with a score of 34-0. Quarterback Matt Moore was able to keep the ball moving and completed several passes. The Warriors came with in striking distance of the endzone, but without any scoring play. Aiden Cruz was a key player in Friday nights game by, “making some really nice runs,” said Coach Gomez. The Warriors defense started strong, holding Durham’s offense scoreless in the first quarter. Once Durham scored in the second quarter it set the tone of the rest of the game, continuing through the fourth. “It turned out to be a hard fought game for the Warriors as Durham’s offense and defense proved to be too powerful,” said Gomez. He went on to say, “Winters played a hard fought game and never allowed themselves to give up.” This coming Friday the Warriors will come home and Winters will host Willows for the last game of the season. For all the sports fans out there, remember to wear as much black as possible for the first ever “blackout” game.]]>
