On Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Winters High School women’s varsity soccer team won their neutral playoff game against Williams High School by a score of 3-1.
Yarethzy Sanchez has been one of the top scorers for the Warriors since the beginning of the season, and pulled through for her team during the playoff game against Williams, scoring two goals.
McKenna Carrion-Clifford has also been a consistent player for the Warriors offense, scoring one goal and making one assist.
Joanna Cuevas made an assist in the game against Williams, helping her team secure their spot at Championships.
Makayla Garland, Winters goalkeeper, played an excellent game with four saves and was heavily guarded by a strong defense.
After winning playoffs the Warriors headed to the Championships for the seventh year in a row, and while the outcome isn’t what the athletes had hoped for, the score was not a reflection on how hard they played.
On Saturday, Feb. 26 the Warriors lost their neutral championship game against University Prep in Redding by a score of 7-0.
“U-prep had so much height on us it was ridiculous, their shortest player was maybe five-foot, seven,” said head coach Kim Olivas.
Despite the score, the Warriors were happy to have made it to the championships and played with much heart and passion.
“We look forward to making championships again next year,” said Olivas.
