Born on Aug. 18, 1936, in Vacaville to Pauline and Harry Sattazahn, Barbara Ann Ortiz passed into eternal life on Dec. 24, 2017.

She attended school in Winters and worked for Safeway in Sacramento for 32 years while serving on the executive board of Retail Clerks Local 588.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Campos and Shirley Ramos, former husband Louie Ortiz, best friend Shirley Valee and soul mate of 18 years, Peter Covitch.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Kit) and Richard (Linda) Gonzales and daughter Susan (Patrick) McIver, sisters Sandy Tipton and Harriet (Greg) Shortridge, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was an avid golfer, achieving two holes-in-one. She was a member of Plumas Lake and Bing Maloney Clubs.

She leaves many friends, especially Nancy Mara, Rose Jang, Marcia Alexander, Jo Jo Clark and Bill Rhinehart. She enjoyed all her friends at the Elks Lodge #6, including Arlene Bennett, Irma and Hank Peralta and Vera Lambert.

Barbara was truly a generous and loving person. She was always entertaining and preparing meals for her friends, providing transportation or coming to the aid of anyone in distress. Services will be on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at 10 a.m. at East Lawn Cemetery, 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento.
