Lifelong Winters resident, Daniel Martinez Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at the age of 62.

Danny was born Sept. 25, 1954 to Daniel C. Martinez and Anna R. Martinez. Growing up, he worked on the family ranch and was always active on the playing field, especially football and baseball. He was a graduate of Winters High Class of ‘72 and later attended Napa Junior College, where he played football.

He will be greatly missed by his son Jerod Martinez, mother Anna R. Martinez, sister Juanita Martinez-Friex and husband Doug; brother-in-law Jesse Martinez, nephew Jonathan Martinez his wife Christina and their daughter Ava; nieces Kristin Schroeder and husband Shaun, Laini Start and husband Dave, Megan Martinez-Montes and husband Adrian, and Jenna, Erin, and Ashlee Martinez, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. Dear to his heart were his great nephews and nieces, Mason and Rylie Schroeder and Jackson, Ella, and Sophia Start.

Danny was proud of his Winters roots and his Spanish heritage. He was an avid San Francisco Giants and San Francisco Forty-Niner fan and loved to talk baseball and football with everyone. His happiness was being with people he loved, listening to his rock and roll favorites and working in his garden. He always had a cheerful outlook and a warm hug, and he always saw the best in people.

Danny was proceeded in death by his father, Daniel C. Martinez, and his sister, Julie Martinez.

A Catholic memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Winters, 511 Main Street. A reception will immediately follow at St. Anthony Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
