Gary Lee Bertagnolli Sr., 76, passed away unexpectedly at home on the morning of June 5, 2017.

Gary was born in Webb City, Missouri, on Feb. 2, 1941. He was raised in Napa by his parents, John and Betty Bertagnolli. He graduated from Napa High School in 1959 where he took pride in contributing to the design of the sundial donated by his graduating class, which is still located in front of the current Napa School District Auditorium.

He continued his education at Idaho State University, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacology. ISU is where he met the love of his life, Kathleen, at a “Get Acquainted Dance” before he even started classes. They went on to be happily married for 57 years. After graduation, he moved his young family back to his hometown of Napa, where he and Kathy resided until 1989 when they moved to Winters.

He was proud to be an “old fashioned” pharmacist for 51 years. He owned pharmacies in Napa, St. Helena and Winters. He loved caring for his customers, always going the extra mile to help them out. He retired from Eagle Drug in 2015 but after a short retirement, was happy to return “home” to work part time at Family Drug in Napa with old friends.

He loved fishing, flying pigeons, and raising cows at the family ranch. When Gary opened Eagle Drug in 1983 he fell in love the people of Winters and immediately became  an active member of the community. He enjoyed community events and being a “Rotarian,” where he was president from 2013 to 2014.

His true passion however, was family. He beamed with pride over his children and grandchildren, and he loved taking them on adventures — everywhere from Lake Almanor to Wyoming.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; his brother, John; daughter, Amy Bertagnolli-Davis; and son, Gary Jr. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Ron Davis, and his five grandchildren, Jade and Casey Bertagnolli, Kaylee Davis Duck (Jason), Colton and Kyle Davis; brothers and sister-in-law Shawna Hall, Frank Adams (Pat), Maury Adams (Judy) and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Betty Bertagnolli, and his daughter, Gina Marie Bertagnolli.

A service in his memory will be held on Friday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Winters. The service will be followed by a Celebration of Life in the Parish Hall.

Donations in his honor can be made to the “Gary Bertagnolli Scholarship Fund” via First Northern Bank, 48 Main Street, Winters, CA 95694.
