Jesus Rodriguez Lizarraga “El Güerito,” a 58-year resident of Winters, died Sept. 20, 2016. He was 86.

Born on Dec. 24, 1929 in Siqueros, Sinaloa, Mexico, he moved to Winters in 1958 and became a United States citizen on March 25, 1998.

Jesus spent most of his life in Winters working in agriculture. He also worked at Basic Foods in Vacaville for 27 years. He enjoyed farming orchards and field crops as well as maintaining an expansive home garden. He often traveled to Mexico where he eventually built a home for his retirement, although he was still found farming for Joe Martinez up until the day of his accident.

He was known for his love of Mexican Banda and Ranchera Music. Jesus was a great story teller whose stories ended in laughter. He will be missed by his family and the Winters community.

His wife Maria de la Luz, who died in 2009, preceded him in death, as did his parents Jose Maria Lizarraga and Epifania Rodriguez.

His children are Jesse (Marlene), Armando (Connie), Maria Gastelum (Juan), Socorro (Michael Caravalho) and Jorge (Jean).

His siblings are Armando Lizarraga of Dixon and Socorro Berryesa of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.

His grandchildren are Jessica, Maria Christina, Juan Jose, Daniel, BO Jesse, Marina, Eric, Carla Rose, Alejandro, Antonio and Benjamin. He also had six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A service was scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Church, 511 Main Street in Winters.
