Jose Gustavo Robles Jr., of Esparto, passed away on March 14 at Alta Bates Summit Center (Sutter Health).

He was born in Woodland on July 31, 1977. Tavo, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Vacaville High School in 1996.

He was head chef for Tex Wasabi in Sacramento, owned by Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. He enjoyed reading books, playing guitar and having deep conversations.

Tavo is survived by his mother and step-father, Adelaida and Dewey Cope of Esparto; father and step-mother Jose G. Sr. and Melissa Robles of Somerton, Ariz.; sisters Ninfa (Jose) Robles-Marmolejo of Sacramento, Lynn (Glenn) Davis of Antoich, and Amanda (Vincent) Cope of Brooks; brothers Caleb (Jenny) Cope of Vacaville, Thomas (Jessica) Cope of Esparto, and Joe and Alexis Robles of Somerton, Ariz.

He also is survived by: his grandparents, Gilberto and Brigida Alarcon of Winters; grandmother, Rosa Robles of Somerton, Ariz.; nephews, Roman and Matthew Cope; niece Genesis Lowell; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Gilberto Alarcon Jr.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 31, at noon, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 511 Main St. in Winters. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. in the Parish Hall of the church. Burial will be private.
