Joseph (Joe) R. Gallardo, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 at Sutter Roseville Medical Center following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 42 years, Sandra Gallardo; her children, Carrie Geib and Craig Bechthold; two grandchildren, Molly Cotton and Jared Bechthold; one great-granddaughter; sister Louise Stith; nephews Leland Stith, Curtis Stith, Paul Stith, and niece Debbie Thomman along with their families.

Born and raised in Winters, the son of Joseph and Theresa Gallardo, who were both born in Spain and immigrated with their families at a young age, Joe spent his youth helping on their apricot ranch. He graduated from Winters High School and joined the U.S. Army.

After his years of service, he returned to Sacramento where he attended Sacramento City College. He briefly sold life insurance for John Hancock and then began his lifelong career as an auto mechanic. He started out working for Standard Oil, eventually owning a gas station in the South Sacramento area. After the gas station, Joe opened his own auto repair garage, which he moved to Rocklin in 1974. Joe ran his shop until he retired in 2002.

Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, belonged to the Automotive Service Council, and the local chapter of Club Española. He will be missed by many.

A public memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 6365 Douglas Blvd., in Granite Bay. Interment will be Thursday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital or Parkinson’s Research.
