Juan De La Cruz, 74, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 2, in Dixon. He was born May 4, 1942, in Jalostotitlán of Jalisco, Mexico, to Pablino De La Cruz and Maria Del Refugio De Anda.

In 1960, Juan took advantage of the Brasero Program and migrated from Mexico to the United States, and worked in the fields of Watsonville, Oxnard and Dixon. He married Zeferina Padilla on Dec. 4, 1961, and in 1968 they made Winters their home, where they raised five sons.

Juan truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: spending time with his family, chatting with friends, sitting in his patio listening to music, riding his bicycle, gardening and spending time with his great grandchildren.

Juan is survived by his wife Zeferina of 55 years; sons Martin, Raul, Ruben, Arturo and José; grandchildren John, Erica, Angelica, Brandon and Marcus; five grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters, one brother and his daughter.

A vigil will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow burial at St. Anthony Parish Hall. All services will be held at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, 511 Main Street.
