Julia René Millon, 27, of Winters, CA, died Monday, May 28, 2018 from injuries suffered in a solo car accident. She was born in Woodland, CA on February 22, 1991 to Lee Millon and Kathy Millon (Holtz). She attended Winters public schools K-12 and graduated as valedictorian from Winters High School (2008) and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science from the University of California Berkeley (2012).
Julia was a brilliant and determined journalist at the Winters Express and was poised to become the editor. She had also recently started writing freelance articles and gear reviews for ultra trail running magazines. She previously worked as an EMT for NORCAL Ambulance and at Fleet Feet Sports in Davis. She overcame incredibly challenging health and medical setbacks to become an accomplished ultra trail runner, a certified wilderness first responder, a passionate writer. Julia traveled all over California, the western United States, and Alaska to participate in 50k, 100k, 100 and 200 mile ultra trail running events. She was a dedicated member of her running club who tirelessly supported other athletes and was an eager volunteer at various trail running and trail building events. Julia was tenacious, persistent, resilient and very focused; training on her days off, to be the best runner she could be. She was truly Unafraid.
Julia is survived by her parents Lee and Kathy; her stepmother Lauren McNees; her sister and brother-in-law, Hélène & Matt Thomas; Julia’s boyfriend, John McAnelly; her grandparents Earl and Dot Holtz; the Millon Family – Aunt Fe, Uncles Noel, Ted, and Manuel; Andrea McNees and the Holtz Family – Uncle Kirvin, Uncle Corwin and Aunt Debby; cousins Sarah, Corey, Harry and Willa, and a very strong community of friends and colleagues.
Her spirit, joy, talents and passions will be celebrated with a BBQ potluck on June 16th at 12pm at 4023 Canal Lane, Winters, CA 95694. A BBQ lunch will be prepared on site and celebrants are invited to bring side dishes to share, typical of true Winters community potlucks. Dress is casual for outdoor summer weather but please feel free to dress as you would like. Julia would want you to show up as your true self.
