Rafael Boites of Winters passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. Rafael, a resident of Winters for 40 years, succumbed to gastric cancer after a long battle. He was 58.

Rafael was born December 8, 1957 in El Pino, Jalisco, Mexico, to Pedro Boites and Juana Guzman Boites. He was the fifth child of 10.

Rafael was very well known and loved by the Winters community and worked here in several trades. He lived on and maintained the walnut and almond orchards for both the Crum and Knapke families. He then made a change in career paths and began his mechanic and maintenance work for Sunsweet Dryers in Winters. Helping build the plant from a dirt field, he then continued as the head mechanic for 13 years.

He then made his final career change on to

construction, working with JDS Construction and Jecole Enterprises. Rafael was an asset to all of his employers.

Rafael is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeannie Boites; daughter, Felicia Winnett and son-in-law Lawrence Winnett, and grandson, Turin Alexander Winnett; son, Alejandro Boites; siblings, sister Dolores Boites Guzman, brother Refujio Boites Guzman, brother Domingo Boites Guzman, sister Rosa Boites Guzman, sister Maria Boites Guzman, sister Gloria Boites Guzman, brother Miguel Boites Guzman, sister Luisa Boites Guzman and brother Estevan Boites Guzman.

Rafael was preceded in death by his father Pedro Boites and his mother Juana Guzman Boites.

A Celebration of Life has been scheduled at St. Anthony Catholic Church for Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m. with a wake following the services at 511 Main Street, Winters CA, 95694.
