Raymond (Ray) Valadez

Surrounded by his abundant and loving family Raymond (Ray) Valadez, a lifelong resident of Winters, passed away peacefully on Nov. 20. Born on Aug. 31, 1936 to Felix and Ambrosia (Esparza) Valadez, he was 80 years of age.

Ray graduated from Winters High School, Class of 1954, and was well known for his athletic talents. Shortly after high school he completed a tour of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was stationed overseas. Upon his return home he met and married his sweetheart, Nora Hereford. They had 5 children and raised them on Rosa Avenue (their home of 51 years). While working many jobs, often two or even three, he still managed to coach little league and play men’s softball. Eventually his hard work paid off, when he began his 30 year career with PG&E as a heavy equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years; his parents, sisters, Margaret Stroh, Isabel Anderson and Gloria Sopranuk; brothers, Francisco Valadez and Felix Valadez Jr.

He is survived by his five children: Marie, Vincent, Vicki, Monica, and Paula. His beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Kelsi, Dezi, Jake, Derek, Luke, Rianna, Jessica, Maranda and Whitney, 10 great grandchildren, sister Ann Heredia and brothers Emilio and Tony Valadez; numerous favorite nieces and nephews.

Interment was at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery near Dixon on Nov. 30 at 11:30 a.m. A reception was held at Saint Anthony’s Parish Hall following the service at 1:30 p.m.
