Watching the Washington hearings about the assault on the Capital on January 6 was not only entertaining but also informative. Nearly 18 million people turned in to watch last Thursday’s hearing. I’m seeing some heroes and villains to this production. Former Vice President Mike Pence looks like one of the good guys while the ex-president and his advisors look like traitors to the United States trying to overthrow our government.

Just a question, but why did the capitol police only shoot, and kill, one rioter, a woman coming through a window? If there is an assault on your home, and you had the ability to stop them, wouldn’t you empty your gun trying to save your family or expect the police to protect you?

I look at the events on January 6 as a failure by the police and capital security. They knew something was going to happen and didn’t take precautions or have enough manpower to defend the Capital. Where were additional police or the National Guard? Oh, I forgot, these were Trump’s people and they are all law abiding, non-violent citizens, so we had nothing to fear.

Close your eyes and imagine if this attack on our Capital was organized by Black Lives Matter and not by white militiamen? Do you think the outcome would have been the same? Do you think ex-President Trump would have stood by, watching on television, choosing to do nothing? According to Trump’s own words about those that stormed the capital, “These were peaceful people, these were great people.” He must not have been watching the same television channel that I was watching.

Speaking to Fox News he later said, “the rally participants were patriots, that some of them were unjustly arrested and jailed, and that the woman who was shot and killed by law enforcement during the insurrection was a great hero… Who is the person that shot an innocent, wonderful, incredible woman, a military woman, right in the head?’ Trump said. “There is no repercussion — that were on the other side, it would be the biggest story in this country. Who shot Ashli Babbitt? People want to know and why?”

Does anyone want to put the officer in jail for trying to protect our elected officials from a mob breaching the Capital? Some in the crowd were shouting “hang Mike Pence.” Five people died from the attack on the Capital and I’m hoping that the insurrectionists will be held responsible, but I’m not holding my breath.

Some are saying that the hearings are one sided, but the House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy tried to nominate extremist on the panel and they were rejected by Nancy Pelosi so he pulled the rest of his nominees. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming and Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger are on the committee, along with seven Democrats, not a Trump fan among any of them.

It will be up to the Attorney General to file charges, but again, I’m not holding my breath.

Have a good week.
