After reading the Winters Express edition for Wednesday, Oct. 31 I was disappointed to see coverage for WHS sports relegated to one page. As it turns out, the swim team competed in the Masters Meet and officially wrapped up their season. Congratulations Water Warriors! For those that have not been keeping up, Warriors Varsity Football is in the hunt for competing for a section championship. The Winters Express has done some awesome work covering youth success in Winters. However, combining multiple sports to one page and separating them by subheadings, makes me feel like the Express does not consider WHS sports an important area of coverage. I believe that the community cares about high school sports and would welcome increased coverage, especially those extremely proud parents, coaches and athletes (including cheerleaders). Even the Sacramento Bee seems to regularly provide reporting of our dominate baseball team and most recently, our successful football team. The fact that the Bee finds it newsworthy to cover a small school that doesn’t even compete in the same section as the teams covered on a year-round basis, makes me believe that I am not alone in desiring increased coverage of WHS athletics. Keep up the good work, but please reconsider the way our local sports are covered. Lastly, thank you Eric Lucero for all the time and work you have put into covering the community over the years.
