Appropriating the image of a Lakota Warrior as a sports team mascot (most names are animals) and pretending that it is not ethnically insensitive to American Indians when they are protesting its use right in front of you is as hard to believe as some of the things coming out of Washington.
Have you forgotten that, historically, the Lakota were vanquished and moved to reservations? How can it be okay to use their images without their permission? Even further, I saw that words considered to be ethnic slurs, like squaw and papoose, have been used by the high school booster club as fundraising group names.
Wake up and enter the 21st Century. This is wrong behavior and should be changed. It has nothing to do with school spirit or your old high school memories.
