By Julia Reynolds Publicity Chairperson Flying Needles Quilters Guild The Flying Needles Quilters Guild of Yolo County is having their semi-annual quilt show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and from 10 a.m to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. The show entitled “Quilts That Give You Paws” will feature approximately 200 quilts completed by guild members over the past year. The show will be held at the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland. Admission to the show is $7 per day and parking is free. The show offers quilters the opportunity to display their work to the public and gives the community a chance to see the new and exciting directions quilt making is taking as new techniques, fabric and materials become available in the market place. The show will feature hundreds of quilts. In addition to the quilts on display there will be vendors of quilt supplies and a quiltique with handmade items for sale. Gift baskets and opportunity quilt drawings will take place on Sunday afternoon. Lunch will also be also be available for purchase. Proceeds from this event will support the activities of the Guild which include promoting quilting and the use of textiles within the Guild itself and the community at large. The Guild contributes to the knowledge of quilting techniques, history and quilt making by providing educational meetings, fun and fellowship. Community service activities include making quilts for Hospice, Project Linus, Ronald McDonald charities and SPCA. The guild also partnered the Kiwanis local organization to make trauma dolls for children.
