July marks the height of fresh, locally-grown and seasonal produce available in Yolo County and the Hanna & Herbert Bauer Memorial Garden is celebrating by offering a free Healthy Meal Showcase on Wednesday, July 31. This event will be held at the garden from 5:15-6:30 p.m. and will include simple cooking demonstrations, taste tests and recipe ideas using fresh garden produce to help residents creatively transform their garden bounty into easy and healthy meals.

The class is hosted by the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency CalFresh Healthy Living program and will feature recipes from Eatfresh.org, a free online nutrition and recipe resource.  Eatfresh.org is a modern, fun and interactive way to get nutrition information, recipes, cooking tips and other related resources.  Class instructors Anel Moreno, health educator and David Linebarger, health educator and community garden manager will share relevant information about seasonal produce and nutrition.  The class will also provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions about nutrition and gardening, and of course to sample the dishes and snacks offered during the Healthy Meal Showcase.

Pre-registration by Tuesday, July 30 is required for the class. To register, contact David Linebarger at 530-666-8429 or david.linebarger@yolocounty.org.  The garden is located at 137 N. Cottonwood Street in Woodland, behind the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency Bauer Building.

This class is free to all as part of the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency’s commitment to providing education and resources that help residents eat fresh fruits and vegetables and live healthier lives.

Participants are encouraged to dress for warm weather and bring water.  In the event of extreme heat, the class will be moved inside.
