The Solano Resource Conservation District’s (RCD) 2019 Annual Plant Sale and Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at Solano RCD’s Conservation Education Center, 6390 Lewis Rd., Vacaville.

This year’s focus is pollinators. The plant sale will feature a wide variety of native and regionally appropriate wildflowers, shrubs and trees designed to reduce water use, attract native wildlife or control erosion. RCD staff and the local Solano County Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions about what plants are right for gardens or lawns.

At 11 a.m., Solano RCD staff will present a free workshop, “Gardening to Attract Birds, Bees & Butterflies!”  Providing flowers for native pollinators in your backyard is a great way to help the wildlife of the local watershed. Urban and rural gardens can provide essential food and shelter for insect and bird species during the scarce winter months and maintenance of pollinators will insure the maintenance of healthy plant and wildlife populations as well.
