Using a drip irrigation method to water the garden this summer can help save money on water bills and improve the health of plants. To help Yolo County residents enjoy these benefits, the Hanna & Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden is hosting a free drip irrigation class for the backyard gardener on Wednesday, April 24, from 5:15-6:30 p.m.

This interactive class will be taught by David Linebarger, the garden manager, who will teach participants about the tools needed to set up a simple drip system, how drip irrigation can produce more crops and different strategies for setting up a drip system.

Pre-registration by Tuesday, April 23 is required for the class. To register, contact David Linebarger at 530-666-8429 or e-mail: david.linebarger@yolocounty.org. The garden is located at 137 N. Cottonwood St. in Woodland, behind the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency Bauer Building.

This class is free all and is part of the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency’s commitment to providing education and resources that help residents eat fresh fruits and vegetables and live healthier lives.  Free gardening classes are offered throughout the year at the community garden.  To learn more about garden activities and classes, visit: www.yolocounty.org/garden.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear shoes that can get dirty.  In the event of steady rain, the class will be cancelled.
