The West Yolo Democratic Club will hold a “Party at the Farm” at Dixon Ridge Farms in Winters on Sunday, Aug. 25. The event will feature Jim Hightower, progressive national radio commentator, bestselling author and public speaker. Several other speakers have been invited, including California Assembly Member, Cecilia Aguiar-Curry; California Senator, Bill Dodd; and Representative John Garamendi, National Congressman and Jenny Lester Moffitt, Undersecretary of California Department of Food and Agriculture. The event will include a dinner catered by El Pueblo of Winters. Beer, wine and soft drinks will also be available. Music will be provided by the Ron Goldberg Trio, and a silent auction will also be included at the event. There may be an opportunity to tour Dixon Ridge Organic Walnut Farms, as well. In 1982, Jim Hightower was elected Texas Agricultural Commissioner until 1990. During his tenure he was noted for supporting organic production, alternative crops and direct marketing by small farmers. He is known for his wit and concern for the average American.  The “Doug Jones Average”, a concept created by Hightower, is the proposal that in order to check the true health of the American economy, instead of looking at the Dow Jones Industrial Average it is better to check up on how Doug Jones down the street is doing. His speech at the Party at the Farm should be interesting and entertaining.   This is the fifth such event hosted by the West Yolo Democratic Club. To purchase tickets for the event, visit https://westyolodems.eventbrite.com Ticket options include an opportunity to enjoy a private reception and dinner at the Buckhorn the night before, and to have the donor’s name on the program.
