July 22, 2018 On Monday, July 17, 2018, the members of the Central Committee of the Yolo County Democratic Party held their regular monthly meeting in Woodland. On the agenda was the election of three new officers to fill the vacancy left by a slew of resignations earlier in the summer. Filling the position of Secretary, vacated by Winters resident Marlene Bell after many years, is former Davis city council candidate Linda Deos. Lily Starling, a farmer, business owner, and Winters Express staff writer, took over the position of Executive Director, winning her race against Davis College Democrat Elizabeth Oramas-Diaz by a single vote. Danny Thirakul, president of the River City Democratic Club, won the Parliamentarian race against Perrin Swanlund of the Davis College Democrats. The officers of the executive board, which include former Executive Director-turned-Vice Chair Dillan Horton, Treasurer Arun Sen, and Chair Bob Schelen, meet weekly via conference call to discuss housekeeping, fundraising, and pressing issues that come up between the monthly meetings of the full committee. The newly elected officers expressed their gratitude to the committee for running a fair and engaged election.
